Making a Difference in the Kona Communities
Since 2014, 1250 Oceanside, LLC, the developer of Hokuli‘a, has contributed to the growth and health of the thriving North and South Kona communities. With the establishment of the Hokuli‘a Community Fund and Hokuli‘a Scholarship Fund they help to benefit the people of West Hawai‘i. Since inception, the Hokuli‘a Community Fund has committed more than $500,000 to the communities.
Here are some of the ways:
The Hokuli‘a Community Fund has provided over $150,000 in unrestricted funding to nonprofit organizations serving the area. This type of funding enables organizations to prioritize their own needs and respond to circumstances and opportunities as they arise. FLEX grants from the Fund support organizations that provide important services to residents, including arts and culture, environmental preservation, and health and human services.
Another initiative is Career Connected Learning Partnership, which provides learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math to prepare Big Island youth for future career success. These grants reach 12,000 local students and 900 educators.
The Hokuli‘a Scholarship Fund, which has offered more than $100,000 in scholarships to date, invests in individual students creating upward mobility for their family and the greater community. Scholarships have reached over 20 students attending 19 different higher education institutions since 2015.
